Ultramarathon runner Kevin Carr, from Ilsington, is, he hopes, 100 days away from becoming the fastest person yet to run round the globe.

His 18,000-mile adventure began at Haytor in July, 2013, and he is now in the USA, having covered three-quarters of the planet.

He is running more than 30 miles a day without support, another first, and raising funds for the Red Cross and Sane.

He has endured searing temperatures of 40 degrees C or more and slept out in freezing conditions of minus 29 degrees.

In Australia he was hit by a car and in Canada there were marauding bears to avoid. His next task is to cross South America, but before heading back to Dartmoor he sent a personal message from across the Atlantic.

He also made a seasonal appeal for readers to support his adopted charities.
