A FUND-RAISING campaign has been launched to help a Kingsteignton mum-of-two who has been diagnosed with cancer for a second time.

Laura Jane Wotton, 38, is again facing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, after previously beating the disease several years ago.

Her best friend Naomi Strickland, who has known her since they were 11, said: ‘Laura is a pocket rocket — an adventurous soul with so much to give this world. She’s a fighter no matter what’s chucked her way.’

The returning cancer is more complex and riskier to treat the second time around, meaning Laura must now undergo harsher chemotherapy in the hope of reaching remission before starting an intensive bone marrow transplant.

She will be in hospital for a minimum of four weeks, with the treatment carrying just a 50 per cent success rate.

A potential CAR T-cell therapy, which has higher success rates, may follow — though it requires additional approval and funding.

Laura, a devoted mum to two neurodivergent children — Emily, 18, and Oliver, 14 — has stayed positive for her family despite everything.

She recently got engaged to her partner, Toni, who has just been put at risk of redundancy with Barclays, adding to the couple’s worries.

Naomi said Laura remains determined to keep smiling and to be ‘the best mummy she can be to two very confused and scared children’.

The Go Fund Me set up by Naomi and Toni, aims to help relieve financial pressure on the family as Laura undergoes months of gruelling treatment, covering essentials, family support, and potential care costs.

Naomi said: ‘She made a promise to live life when she had the all clear last time and she’s not about to break that promise to herself now.’

So far, just over £100 has been raised toward the £900 target.

Naomi added: ‘Anyone who knows Laura knows how full of life, laughter, and love she is.

'She’s the kind of person who lights up every room, always putting others before herself.

‘Now, it’s our turn to be there for her — to help ease the burden and support her through this fight.

‘Laura has a tough road ahead, and while she’s ready to face it with all the strength she’s got, we want to make sure she doesn’t have to worry about the financial strain that comes with treatment and caring for her beautiful family.

'All donations — big or small — will go directly toward anything Laura and her family need during this time, and potentially toward treatment costs if that becomes necessary.

‘Let’s rally around Laura, Toni, Emily, and Oliver, and show them they’re not alone in this fight.

‘Every little bit helps and every message of love and support means the world.’
