DEBBIE Scurfield had her hair chopped off to raise money and awareness of her friend’s toddler’s life-limiting condition.

Little Stanley Murphy, aged 20 months, has Tay-Sachs syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. He’s not expected to live beyond the age of five.

Stanley’s mum Emma, from Newton Abbot, made the first cut of her friend’s hair in front of customers at Tesco Kingsteignton where Debbie works. Many inches were chopped off after Debbie put her long hair into a plait.

Debbie said: ‘It was a bit nerve wracking sat right in front of the store having my hair cut off, but having Emma and Stanley there reminded me of why I was doing it.
