THE fallen of two world wars and other conflicts will be remembered at services and wreath laying ceremonies throughout the district on Sunday. For historian John Ellis, the past week marked the completion of an 11-year labour of love to record the details of the sacrifice of Newtonians in the first world war. On Thursday last week Mr Ellis went along to the town hall to present the manuscript he has painstakingly formulated as the Newton Abbot Great War Roll of Honour. It lists the published information on more than 320 men who made the ultimate sacrifice, augmented with photographs and reports of their enlistment and service. All those listed were a native of the town, were working in Newton Abbot at the time of their enlistment, or their widow or next of kin lived in the town at the time of the publication of the formal casualty records.
