A REFERENDUM of Bovey Tracey's 7,000 plus residents on the future of 1.8 hectares of town council-owned land off Le Molay Littry Way looks a distinct possibility.

Recently a row erupted when it transpired the council had held talks behind closed doors with agents representing Sainsbury's, enquiring about a possible supermarket on the site.

A town ballot, which would have to be called at a public meeting by a resident and backed by six signatories, hinges on whether a covenant on the land, left for community use, can be overturned.
