BISHOPSTEIGNTON now has its own protected village green thanks to Teignbridge Council handing over a parcel of land at Horns Park to the parish council on Monday.

While Horns Park has been enjoyed as a shared community space since time immemorial there was no protection and there were fears that it could succumb to housing development.

For several years Bishopsteignton Parish Council campaigned to have the land protected and its chairman, Cllr Trevor Davey, said it was a tremendous achievement to secure one of the few green spaces in the village centre.

'It is the last piece of public open space in the village,' he said.
