A LANDFILL site in Kingsteignton has been declared suitable for creating energy from recyclable waste.

A government inspector said Heathfield was an appropriate place as earmarked in the Devon Waste Plan.

Heathfield has been used for non-hazardous waste for years and now looks 'well-placed' to accommodate an energy recovery facility.

Energy recovery can include anaerobic digestion, pyrolysis, which is thermochemical decomposition of material at high temperatures, gasification – which converts organic and fossil fuel-based materials into carbon monoxide, hydrogen and carbon dioxide – and incineration.
