More than a hundred children took part in a fancy dress, fun-packed pancake race in Fore Street, Chudleigh to mark Shrove Tuesday.
With the street closed to cars, the event, including the traditional pancake race and a fancy dress competition and organised by Chudleigh Pre-school, was a great success full of community spirit.
Winners of the fancy dress competition each received an Easter egg, while those preferring to run and toss pancakes were presented with rosettes.
The children dressed up as a number of colourful characters, one child even dressed as a burnt pancake! The majority of children dressed as their favourite super heroes and there were lots of little Spidermen and budding Harry Potters racing and flipping those ever important pancakes.
New teacher Mrs Morris, who teaches years three and four at Chudleigh School, won the adult race but as a sweet, or should it be sour, gesture each entrant was given a fresh lemon to take home as a prize for taking part.
Linda Kilbride, from Chudleigh Pre-school who helped organise the race said it was an eventful morning. 'There was real community spirit and the children had a great time. We had to get a petition to close the road and managed to get more than 300 signatures in two days which shows that we had great support,' She said.
Linda has helped organise the event for the past three years and hopes to offer her services again next year to make it another success.
