A large contingent travelled to UWIC, Cardiff, to watch Newton Abbot's men and women teams compete in the Bristol and West League, with both enjoying good wins.
The women's team (Lynn Shears, Laura Shears, Paris James, Faye Drinkwater, Louise McGowan, Katie Trist, Laura Trist, Amber James, Jess Shears, Annie Tinsley) won 10-8, with Laura Shears scoring eight of Newton's goals.
The away side were 5-1 up at the end of the first quarter, with Shears hitting three and Drinkwater two.
Although Shears scored two more in quarter two, the home side fought back to 7-4 at the end of the period.
UWIC scored twice more in quarter three before the game really erupted into life in the final quarter, with both teams enjoying large volumes of vocal support.
Shears scored twice early in the quarter but UWIC fought back and were trailing by just one goal before Shears sealed victory for the visitors in the dying moments of the match.
l Newton Abbot's men enjoyed an easier victory, 15-7, over UWIC.
Phil Shears opened the scoring for Newton Abbot with the first of his four goals coming in the opening minute.
Newton dominated play in the first quarter with a further goal from Shears and four from Westacott.
The visitors extended their lead to 10-2 at the end of quarter two, which saw a goal for 15-year-old Jack Beer.
The score was 13-6 in Newton's favour at the end of quarter three, and Newton sealed their victory with further goals in the final period from Shrubb and Beer.
