MOLLY Coombe, Bishopsteignton’s benevolent benefactor, is to be remembered with a special talk being given in her honour, and organised by the Bishopsteignton Museum Trust.

It is 10 years since Molly died, and the trustees feel it is the right time to honour her memory by putting on the first Molly Coombe Memorial Lecture.

It is intended to hold a special lecture each year on Molly’s behalf, with a top speaker, and this year it is Dr Peter Marsden, a Mary Rose expert, who lives locally, who will give his talk entitled: 1545: Who Sank the Mary Rose?

Henry VIII’s flagship sank in the Solent in 1545 while fighting a French invasion fleet.

It was raised from the deep a few years ago and is now on display at Portsmouth.

Dr Marsden is a leading archaeologist and is to be awarded the Freedom of the City of London in September for services to archaeology.

The talk is on Wednesday at 7pm at the Cockhaven Arms Hotel in Bishopsteignton,

There will be an opportunity to find out about the work of the trust, and to volunteer for village research and helping out with future events.

The talk is free, and there is parking.
