The new principal of Coombeshead College, Newton Abbot, is confident he can turn its fortunes around after Ofsted branded the overall effectiveness of the 1,358-student college 'inadequate'.
Only the inspectors' belief that the corner had already been turned has saved the college from being brought under the strict control of county education chiefs.
Five Ofsted inspectors spent two days at Coombeshead in March. their report was published this week.
They awarded the specialist media college an overall satisfaction rating of four, the lowest possible, and a marginally higher score of three for its potential for improvement.
