The chairman of Chudleigh Town Council has issued an apology on behalf of the council after more than £7,500 was squandered on the Two Oaks Sensory Garden in the last two years – and it is still far from being completed.
Cllr Nick Walter apologised at a council meeting on Monday after several residents expressed concern that the garden had been neglected and left unfinished.
'It has become very clear in the last three months that the project to create a sensory garden at Two Oaks has not progressed as the town council would have hoped,' he said in a statement at the meeting.
'Consequently, as the current chairman of Chudleigh Town Council, I have undertaken an investigation into what has occurred since the project commenced.
'It is my feeling that both the planning and delivery of the project fell some way short of what the people of Chudleigh have a right to expect.'
