KEEPING the water warm at Teignmouth Lido swallows ten per cent of the district council's annual fuel consumption.
Now it is feared the future of the energy guzzling outside pool at Eastcliff could be under threat, as cash strapped Teignbridge Council makes drastic economies.
The startling statistic was uncovered in a report identifying where savings can be made in leisure facilities.
The lido only opens from June to September, and is popular with residents and holidaymakers, especially when the nearby sea is too rough for swimming.
The report by a leisure reference group chaired by former council leader Cllr Alan Connett recommends covering the water with a cover to save some heat loss.
