TEIGNBRIDGE Council is celebrating the start of summer with news that it has retained four nationally renowned ENCAMS Seaside Awards for a number of its most popular beaches. Dawlish Warren, Coryton Cove, Teignmouth Town and Ness Cove will all be flying the famous yellow and blue flag this summer. Teignbridge spokesman for the environment and environmental health, Cllr Gordon Hook, said: 'It is fantastic news for the authority, and a great reward for all the staff who spend many hours ensuring facilities, service provision and conditions are first-class across the district's many beaches. 'The award scheme assesses beaches against a list of criteria which directly affect beach users, including cleanliness, safety provision, the maintenance of buildings and facilities, in addition to the control of dogs and general provision of information. 'Retaining these four awards means Teignbridge beaches have met the strict criteria necessary to be successful, and that we continue to deliver quality services for local people and visitors alike'. Teignbridge spokesman for economy and tourism, Cllr Tom Archer, said: 'Last year, a total of 94 south west beaches (including the Channel Islands) were awarded the highly-prized ENCAMS Seaside Award, four of which were located in Teignbridge. 'We are delighted to retain these accolades for 2006, which reassure residents and visitors alike that we are committed to looking after our environment as part of our ongoing Clean, Green and Safe Campaign.'
