A litter-clearing exercise in Kingsteignton has proved to be a real eye-opener for the organisers who have said they intend to repeat the exercise in the spring. Clerk to the parish council, Carolyn Moist, was one of those who took part in the clean up from the racecourse to Greenhill Way as part of the Teignbridge Clean Streets initiative. She was shocked by the amount of litter they found and the team – which included councillors and Sea Scouts – covered a far shorter stretch than they had intended to. 'We filled at least 20 sacks and we could have just gone on and on,' she said. 'The Teignbridge road sweepers said we would be surprised at how much rubbish we would find and they were right. Apparently, when they sweep the roads each week, the rubbish is back within hours.' Mrs Moist said extra volunteers would be welcome for the next event, announced in the new year.
