A MOTHER duck and
her babies narrowly
avoided grave danger in
Newton Abbot at the
weekend.
Several motorists took
to social media to warn
other drivers about the
little group plodding
along the South Devon
Highway on Sunday.
One concerned person
– equipped with a net
and pet-carrying box –
went on a rescue mission
to save the animals
from being run over.
The heroic resident
discovered the mum on
the kerb trying to protect
her young ones from the
cars whizzing past.
In a post on Facebook
the rescuer said: ‘I managed
to net all the ducklings
but the mother
panicked and flew into
the middle of the bypass.
‘I had no choice but to
run at her and scare her
away before the next car
hit her.
‘She took off over the
fields where after about
20 minutes of searching
I found her under a
water aqueduct.
‘She was clearly very
worried and thought she
had lost her babies.
‘But once she heard
them cheeping she came
running over to be
reunited with them.
‘They all took off
down the river together
– hopefully to live happily
ever after.’
