A CAR fire that caused delays on the M5 over the weekend is believed to have been started accidentally.

Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received multiple reports of a vehicle on fire on the northbound carriageway of the M5 on Sunday, June 1.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed the vehicle was well alight and used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire

The M5 was reopened at around 2pm.

‘The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental’ a spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.
