POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident in Newton Abbot.

Officers were alerted to the property in the town centre on Monday evening following reports of a disturbance.

Police units went to the address at Fairfield Terrace just after 7.30pm where they found a man who had suffered a serious laceration to his hand.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers then surrounded the property and at about 9.15pm, a man voluntarily handed himself into police custody.

A local man in his 40’s has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and was being questioned by police.

Enquiries are continuing into the incident.
