A MAN has been arrested in Exeter after threatening to kill a police officer in an altercation that saw a member of public step it to help.

Officers were called to Sidwell Street on Thursday morning following a report of an intoxicated male falling in the road and shouting at school children.

Despite being given ‘every opportunity’ to disperse, the man refused and was subsequently arrested for being drunk and disorderly by PC Burns.

During the arrest, however, the man resisted, before a member of public stepped in to assist PC Burns.

It was at this point that a second male ‘decided to involve himself’, threatening to kill the officer.

The man was, therefore, detained and arrested for Section 4 Public Order.

Both men remain in custody, the Mid-Devon Advertiser understands.

‘Exeter Police would like to thank the members of public who assisted police’ the station said.
