A PRISON officer is claiming £1,210 compensation from Devon County Council after coming off his motorcycle in Totnes Road, Newton Abbot, while on his way to work.

Adrian Pike, from Torquay, came a cropper at 7.20am on Friday, January 21, when his bike slid over in the icy conditions, opposite Bakers Park.

The dangers about this section of road were highlighted in the Mid-Devon Advertiser by Gillian Chatfield, of Old Totnes Road, and Devon County councillor Gordon Hook.

Mrs Chatfield revealed that water had been leaking into the road since Christmas and she had contacted South West Water (SWW) because freezing conditions turned it into an ice rink and she feared a serious accident.
