A YOUNG shop worker from Newton Abbot allegedly poisoned his manager with the sex drug Viagra on April Fool’s Day, a court heard.

Benjamin Chope, 24, of Whitelake Place, appeared before magistrates in Torquay charged with the offence against Daniel Webber.

No plea was entered at the first hearing last Thursday where Mr Chope only spoke to give his name, address, and date of birth.

The court was told the alleged offence happened on April 1 this year in Newton Abbot.

The charge claimed Mr Chope unlawfully and maliciously administered to Mr Webber a poison or other destructive or noxious substance.

The substance, identified as Viagra, was administered with intent to injure, aggrieve or annoy Mr Webber.

The court decided the matter was serious enough to go to the Crown Court for a hearing.

Mr Chope was ordered to appear at Exeter Crown Court on August 25 at 10am to answer the charge.

He was remanded on conditional bail. The conditions involved him not contacting Mr Webber or attending the Home Bargains store in Kingsteignton.
