A MAN was stabbed to death at a house in Newton Abbot yesterday morning. The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was attacked at around 1.10am at a house in Broadlands Avenue. Despite the efforts of the ambulance crew he was pronounced dead within the hour. A 55-year-old-man, also from Broadlands Avenue, was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after. Firearms officers made the arrest after enquiries led them to a house a short distance away from the stabbing. The suspect was inside with an eight-year-old boy asleep upstairs. The man, who was known to be in possession of one or more knives, refused to let offices into the house, speaking to them from a window. Negotiations were established with the suspect and, at around 4.30am, the child was allowed to leave and passed into the care of his mother. At 5.30am, firearms officers entered the home and arrested the 55-year-old on suspicion of murder. He was taken to Torbay Police station. Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 08452 777444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting reference 79/25/09/08.
