A YOUNG man from Chudleigh Knighton has been named as the motorist killed in a road smash in East Devon just before the weekend.

Tesco delivery driver Aidan Spruhan, 24, died after his black Nissan Skyline was involved in a four-vehicle accident between Newton Poppleford and Sidmouth on Friday evening.

The accident happened on the A3052 at Four Elms Hill where tributes were later left by friends of the casualty.

Police say his car collided with a BMW travelling in the opposite direction at about 7.45pm.

The BMW then collided with a Peugeot. A fourth vehicle was also badly damaged by debris from the collisions.

The main road between Sidmouth and Exeter, where Aidan worked, was closed for nine hours to allow officers from the Serious Collisions Unit to examine the crash scene before the damaged vehicles were removed.

A police spokesman appealed for any witnesses to contact police on 101, quoting log 967 of July 28.

Numerous tributes have been paid to Aiden on social media, including one from Tesco colleagues who described him as a hard-working member of the team with a great personality.

Others said he was ‘one in a million’ and ‘loved by many.’

The coroner has been informed of the tragedy.

An inquest is expected to open in the next few days to take formal evidence of identity. It will then be adjourned for a full inquest later in the year.
