A DRINK-driver received a 38-month ban and received a community order for a racially and religiously aggravated offence.

Brian Paul Legge, aged 37, of Bucks Close, Bovey Tracey, changed his plea to guilty on a charge of driving a Volkswagen in Bovey Tracey while over the drink-drive limit.

He gave a reading of 51 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He was banned for driving for 38 months, which could be reduced by 38 weeks on successful completion of a course.

A community order was made for him to complete 140 hours of unpaid work. Legge must also pay £200 to the Crown Prosecution Service and £95 to fund victim services.

Legge also changed his plea to guilty of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour causing harassment to a woman in Newton Abbot.

The court found that the offence was both racially and religiously aggravated.

The community order to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work was imposed by South and West Devon Magistrates’ Court.
