HOARDES of people headed to a special film night at St Leonard’s Church this week.
Archive footage of Newton Abbot and the surrounding areas were on display before visitors browsed through some historic copies of the Mid-Devon Advertiser.
The event was used to launch a £10,000 community fundraising campaign to go towards transforming the church into a community space and museum.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has pledged up to £950,000 towards the £2m cost of converting the Victorian building, which the town council bought last year for £200,000.
