Newton Abbot's second Christmas street fair had to be cancelled on Wednesday night as torrential rain swept across the region.

The week before thousands of people had flocked to the town centre for the first event of its kind – the top half of Queen Street was closed to traffic and taken over by scores of traders.

Courtenay Street was packed with stalls and entertainers, the whole package going down a storm with shoppers and visitors.

The fair had been organised by Cornwall events company Born Hectic which had arranged hugely successful markets in Totnes.
