Kingsteignton headteacher Martin Harding will discover this weekend if he has won the ultimate accolade his profession has to offer.

The man given credit for transforming the fortunes of St Michael's C of E Primary in the last five years is due to attend the Teaching Awards 2010 UK ceremony at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, on Sunday.

Having already earned the title of South West Primary Headteacher of the Year, Mr Harding is now in the running for the National College Award for Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School.

Representatives from more than 80 schools nationwide will be present, including nine from the south west. The event is to be hosted by comedian Lenny Henry and screened on BBC 2.

Among those presenting the 12 awards will be education secretary Michael Gove, Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson and Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.
