HAZEL Farleigh from Kingsteignton wasn't that excited when she received a telegram from the Queen last week for reaching her 100th birthday, writes Paul James.

She was quite happy to accept the royal accolade, but she felt that so many reach the 'ton' nowadays that it was not worth 'getting bothered about.'

Her only son Ralph said: 'She is not against the Queen. Indeed, she is quite supportive. But the card duly arrived – and I'm glad she got it.'

Her special day fell on December 21, and the occasion was marked with a visit from the mayor Cllr Keith Howard to her home in Leat Close.
