NATIONAL Trust bosses are hoping to make improvements to the medieval manor house Bradley Manor.

The Newton Abbot manor’s wooden dining room floor needs strengthening and owner the National Trust has applied to Teignbridge Council planners for listed building consent to carry out the work.

It is hoping to get approval to double up the existing timber joists, dating from the 19th or early 20th century, with sister joists and relaying the floor.

Bradley Manor is considered to be one of the most complete medieval manor houses in Devon, much of it the work of Richard and Joan Yarde, who owned it from 1402.

It was given to the National Trust in 1938 by Mrs Woolner.

The great hall is emblazoned with the Royal Arms of Elizabeth I and contains a collection of pre-Raphaelite art.
