PERHAPS the best Chudleigh carnival procession yet – that was the verdict on Saturday's spectacular which attracted 39 entries of every shape, size and colour. Spokesman Alan Holman said many of the town's older residents had told him they could not remember when so many floats had taken part. 'It was brilliant,' he said. Top honours for visiting royalty float went to Totnes Carnival Committee and their Land Of The Rising Sun entry, the team also taking the princess' trophy. The queen's cup went to Ashburton. Sunday's carnival fun run (pictured left) broke records too with 221 participants, up on last year's previous best of 167. 'We didn't expect that, perhaps it's part of the Olympic legacy,' said a delighted Mr Holman. First to complete the 1.7-mile course, cut a little short by a steward's misdirection of the runners, was Chudleigh teenager Harry Germon who came in a little over ten minutes.
