A BODY found washed up on the Dorset coast earlier this month is believed to be that of missing Torquay doctor Rose Polge, police revealed today.

Last Friday a female body was recovered from the sea east of Portland Headland.

A spokesman said this afternoon: ‘We are currently working on the belief that the body is that of 25-year old missing person Rose Polge.’

The spokesman added: ‘Devon and Cornwall Police are working with Dorset Police and the Coroner’s Office on this matter, and await the results of the formal identification.

‘The family of Ms Polge are aware of this latest development.’

A major air and sea search was launched when Rose’s car was found abandoned at Torquay’s Anstey’s Cove on February 12.

The doctor, based at Torbay Hospital, was reported to have been under pressure at work. She had supported the junior doctors’ strike.
