A Shaldon resident writes: I read with great interest your latest article on the moorings row! I can inform you that I am one of the 15 people who has not been granted my rights. Although the commission say that it could be tied up, there are still quite a few people who are unhappy. We have had this mooring in our family for approximately 50 years. It has been passed down from my grandfather to my father, then on to me and we are about to lose it. We have clear evidence from 1971/1972 in the way of letters from the Crown Estate and Teignmouth Council that neither party wanted to charge us when my father tried to register the mooring legally! I still maintain that we are being treated very unfairly by the Commission as we have far more evidence than lots of the other mooring claims which have been granted. Something is not right. Indeed, I know of some similar cases to mine which have been granted. So where is the benchmark and what is going on? Also, we are unpopular with the Harbour Commision as my father's yacht has been hit on regular occasions by commercial vessels entering and leaving the port, for which the Harbour Authority should be at fault. There are also lots of people who are angry at the appeal process/panel. It is meant to be a totally independent panel? So why is there a Harbour Commissioner on it? And who are the other so-called experts? Once again, a clever Harbour Commission! At the moment we seem to have been stitched up by the Commission and feel very down and anoyed at this decision.
