A MUM and her daughter have shaved their heads for a charity very close to their hearts.

Maxine Theobald, 40, and 11-year-old daughter Harriet, had their heads shaved by their hairdresser, Allana Gale, at Ashburton's Swimming Pool cafe on Saturday.

The shave was for Cancer Research UK, and in support of Ms Theobald's lifelong friend Sam Bolleurs who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, and rediagnosed in June this year.

More than 50 friends and family gathered to watch as mother and daughter lost their locks.
