Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross has said the 'barking mad' American policy of attempting to wipe out the Taliban in Afghanistan had hindered efforts to establish peace in the region. He accused the previous US administration of going into the conflict with a mind-set unchanged from the failed Vietnam War (1960-1975).Mr Younger-Ross made the comments after returning from the country where he spent a week as a member of the parliamentary defence select committee.Among his tasks was to inspect progress on comprehensive vehicle repair workshops being built in Camp Bastion by troops from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).It is the first time such facilities have been provided in a conflict zone and an indication that British military commitment to the region is far from over.
