A drive of 219 yards from the first tee at Stover Golf Club marked the start of the new year for the 2009 club captain John Bailey.
The distance was most accurately predicted by club stalwart Robert Vooght, who won the cash prize. He generously donated the full amount to the captain's charity, which this year is Bidwell Brooke Special Needs School in Dartington.
A packed clubhouse listened to the incoming captain's speech and then followed him outside to witness the drive-in.
More than £600 was raised on the day to kickstart his charity fund.
Prior to Bailey's speech, outgoing captain Dudley Price donated a cheque for £8,250 to the Children's Hospice South West, situated at Little Bridge House in north Devon.
