MULTI-COLOURED lighting could soon return to the Brook in Dawlish.

Town councillors have decided the style of lights which will be in a string format and moving in multiple colours to include red, green, blue and white with the possibility of purple.

Members of the Civic Amenities Committee have been working hard behind to scenes to ensure the return of the popular decorative lighting.

The Brook lights had been a popular sight in the town centre but were destroyed and swept away in storms in 2023.

Since then, the waterway has been in darkness and there have been calls for their return.

The town council has been involved in lengthy negotiations with insurers who took some time to resolve the claim.

Money was earmarked in the 2024 to 2025 budget for the replacements.

Now members have agreed to seek quotes for remote and manual control LED lighting.

The new look will be a complete redesign with their of reducing the chance of damage in the future.

Councillors have also been deciding on the exact locations and areas where enhancement is needed.

Meanwhile there have been concerns about a lack of lighting along the footpath near the Brook caused by the high hoarding around the area of the Lawn where South West Water is carrying out work.

Councillors were told: ‘The hoarding blocks light from reaching the footpath, creating a safety issue.’

Members agreed to write to SWW highlighting the safety concerns and ask for temporary improved lighting along the Brook side path of the Lawn urgently.

Members are also considering a longer term solution involving bollard lighting.
