Cllr Chris Meathrel has taken over the chain of office of mayor of Kingsteignton for the next year.

He was presented with the chain by the town's longest serving councillor and former mayor, Cllr Beryl Austen.

She said: 'It is a great honour to be mayor of Kingsteignton and I am sure you will undertake the task with good humour and dignity.

'Since you were elected in 2011, you have been a great councillor, worked hard a lot in the community to help local organisations.'

Cllr Meathrel said: 'During this year, I would like to see this council operate in an open and transparent way.
