NEWTON Abbot is to get a new primary school as part of a £1.1 billion government initiative.
The project will provide a replacement for Buckland's 210-pupil Haytor View Community Primary and nursery which is split between sites at Queensway and Sandringham Road.
Although details have yet to be confirmed it is Queensway which will be redeveloped with Sandringham Road likely to remain under county council control for use as a children's centre.
Subject to further talks between headteacher Katy Liley and government education officials the new building should be open by spring 2015, assuming planning permission is granted.
