NEWTON Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris is preparing for the Confidence Vote on Prime Minister Boris Johnson tonight.
As previously reported, she said she has ‘no plans’ to comment ahead of the vote.
The MP lost the Conservative party whip late last year in response to voting with the opposition on removing VAT from energy bills.
She had written a letter to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee, in December expressing her ‘no confidence’ in the Prime Minister.
But at the time, as the Conservative whip had been withdrawn, her letter did not count towards the total amount required to reach the 54 threshold to trigger a vote on the Prime Minister’s future.
Mrs Morris has now had the whip restored since the new session of parliament on May 12.
Her office today pointed out: ‘This is purely a vote on Boris Johnson’s leadership of the Conservative Party.
‘It is not a vote of (no) confidence in the Government.
‘It’s a secret ballot so only AM will know how she voted.’
