Sharon Beavan, of Seymour Road, Newton Abbot writes:

We moved to Newton Abbot from London 14 months ago and love it.

As such a recent resident, I do not feel I can make pleas for the town to stay as it is, as clearly many young people are frustrated and pessimistic about its future unless the area is regenerated.

Can I please ask that any regeneration is seen as an opportunity to invest in good quality architectural design that sympathises with the character of the older buildings in the town and that makes people want to visit?

Councillors, town planners and commercial agents have a predictably depressing track record of building cheap and for profit.

Please don’t let any regeneration turn Newton Abbot into another anonymous town; the opportunity exists to celebrate its fascinating and rich history while embracing the need for improvement.

Don’t put up new buildings that will only be fit for demolition in 20 years; Newton Abbot is a little gem. Please don’t ruin it.
