Emergency gas works will cause traffic disruption in the Wolborough Street area of Newton Abbot for two weeks from tomorrow, October 25.

Wales and West Utilities is carrying our essential works to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area long term.

The work is scheduled to finish on November 8.

Traffic management will be in place whilst work is ongoing. There will be lane closures on Wolborough Street and Newfoundland Way, and limited access along St Leonards Road. Motorists are advised to allow extra time to complete journeys.

Roxanne Whittaker, of Wales and West Utilities, said: ‘While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Newton Abbot.

‘Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

‘We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

‘We’re very aware of the effect that our work can have on communities and commuters. We’ve working closely with Devon County Council to agree the best way to get this essential work done while causing the least inconvenience.’
