A 43 year old man who was killed when he was struck by a freight train in Devon, has been named.

Stephen Rogers died on the railway tracks at Newton Abbot on May 3rd.

An inquest was opened into his death in Plymouth which was told Stephen was single and unemployed due to sickness.

The inquest heard he was in a taxi on his way home to Fore Street, Bovey Tracey, when he asked the driver to take him to the station.

The hearing was told Stephen, who was born in Smithfield, London, was hit by an oncoming freight train and died from multiple injuries.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a full inquest will be held at a later date.
