THOSE who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom were remembered  at a ceremony in Newton Abbot on Tuesday.

The  small service at the town’s war memorial was  commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War on the day that 40 years the Argentinian forces occupying the islands surrendered to British forces.

Newton Abbot RBL chairman Richard Underhill MBE said: ‘It is very important we do not forget the people who paid the ultimate sacrifice.’

Newton Abbot mayor Cllr Carol Bunday, who laid a wreath on behalf of the Town Council, added: ‘It was a perfect little service, quite intimate but it meant a lot to those who attended.’
