Newton Abbot retained the Top Club award at this year's Torquay Leander Christmas open meet with an impressive display across all age groups.
Particularly noteworthy were the performances of 11-year-old Ben Gauntlett and 13-year-old Ryan Rogers, who both reached the finals of every event. Rogers also received the award for best-performing boy in his age group.
Thirteen-year-old Niall Grant was third best boy, as was 12-year-old Tommy Whiting.
Three Newton girls also featured in the top three in their age groups – Nicole Wickens (12) was third overall, with Alysha Prowse (13) and Millie Price (ten) each achieving second places.
An in-form Rogers came third in the 50m breast, and won every other event in his age group – 50m free, 50m back, 50m fly (pb) and 100m IM.
In the boys' 14-and-over age group, Adam Boulton was third in the free (pb) and 100m IM and second in the 50m breast (pb), while 15-year-old Ed Glanville swam a pb in the 50m fly final.
Lewis Hailstone (14) swam a pb in the 50m free. Niall Grant came fourth in the fly, achieved two third places (100m IM and 50m back) and was the winner of his favoured 50m breast event.
Tommy Whiting won the breaststroke (pb) and came second in both the fly and IM events. Ben Gauntlett achieved a hat-trick of fourth places.
Harrison Boult (11) came third in the 100m IM, while Matt Penney, Sam Booth and Alex Roberts all achieved one or more pbs and Tom Burford also competed for Newton Abbot in the 14-years-and-over age group.
Nicole Wickens (12) achieved the best set of results for Newton's girls, winning the silver medal in the 50m fly and gold in the 50m free. Charlotte Wright (12) was fourth in the 100m IM and achieved two third places (50m breast and free).
Alysha Prowse was third in the 50m fly and second in the 100m IM, while Sammy Basham (12) was fourth in the free and back and took the silver medal in the breaststroke. In the same age group, Holly Roberts swam a pb in the 50m free.
Eleven-year-old Emma Silk achieved pbs in the back and fly, as did 12-year-old Emmy Shaddick in the backstroke. Millie Price reached the finals of both the breast and free and also won the silver medal in the 50m fly.
Ruth Hailstone (12) swam good pbs in the 50m free, back and breast and in the 100m IM, while Yelena Alton and Amy Tozer both completed in the girls' under-11 category, with several pbs apiece. Kate Burford (ten) achieved three pbs.
Newton's nine-year-old girls (Katie Squirrell, Beverley Cock, Laura Silk and Georgie Shaddick) all swam well, with Squirrell finishing fourth in the IM and Cock third in the backstroke.
