Peter Roberts, of East Ogwell, writes;

Cllr Alan Connett has frequently claimed that there will be a £50,000 saving by sharing our chief executive with Torridge Council. Nice if it were true, but he hasn't mentioned the costs that will be incurred by sending other staff (no numbers given) to work at Torridge Council with Ms Bulbeck.

I assume they will be reimbursed for the cost of their travelling etc, whcih over 12 months will be quite significant. Furthermore, there will be added work upon those who stay at Teignbridge – more money, perhaps?

Should Ms Bulbeck be the only one to go, it prompts the question of having worked full time up to now, how is it that she can handle the work required at Teignbridge in half the time? It appears we could have saved thousands of pounds if she had worked half time since her commencement at Teignbridge Council.

Cllr Sally Morgan asks what exactly do some people want? That's very easy to answer, except it's not what some people want, it's what all the people want who have not had their noses dipped in the trough for years.

We want the abolition of the gold plated pension scheme for council employees. Latest figures show that Devon has a pension deficit of £894million. We want the high level of salaries paid to senior employees reduced, not those of the bin men, the lollipop ladies, the receptionists and those at moderate salary levels.

Cllr Sara Randall-Johnson, chairman of the DLG, defined their pension scheme as 'large and well managed'. It is certainly large, but not well managed. pensions monies that are being paid out are from revenue, not savings. A lot of that revenue is from money paid by council tax from the private sector.

My claim that for every £1a council employee pays for their pension we, the public, pay £3 or £4. Nobody, from the chief executive down, has ever refuted that claim.
