THE strength of feeling against two houses being built on conservation land on Newton Abbot's Wolborough Hill has reached boiling point.

Teignbridge Council planning department has been inundated with nearly 600 letters – almost 500 of which is a bulk objection – against a farmer's plans to build the two detached homes.

The town council is also opposed to Anthony Rew's application for approval for access, appearance, layout and scale for the five bedroom houses in Church Fields north east of St Mary's Church and adjacent to College Road and South Road.

Mr Rew is the south west chairman of the National Farmers' Union whose family has farmed at Wolborough Barton, Coach Road, for generations.
