A Kingsteignton cat which became trapped up a tree for more than a day was brought to safety by a team of lumberjacks. Orion, a young ginger tom just getting used to outings from his Ashridge Gardens home, sat petrified 70ft above the ground on Wednesday as a crew from Devon Tree Services extended ladders and began the ascent. They were called in by owner Natalie Mills after the fire service said it wouldn't attend without the RSPCA being there. by the time that would be possible Natalie, with Orion teetering precariously on a branch, thought it was time to act. Luckily for her, and Orion, the lumber specialists downed tools at another job in Bishopsteignton and made the moggy mercy mission their number one priority. Orion, the name of a hunter in Greek mythology, meekly extended a paw of friendship when senior arborist Paul Horrocks finally reached him. He quite happily accepted a lift down in a rucksack before being reunited with a grateful Natalie. 'He's a bit dopey really, more like a dog as he enjoys chews and fetches sticks' she said. 'We were out at 11.30pm trying to call him down and again at 6am but without any luck. 'The guys who rescued him were really great.'
