THE 150th Anniversary of Cadets was celebrated in Newton Abbot on Sunday with a parade through the Courtenay Street pedestrian precinct to St Leonard's clock tower.There, the young people representing the TS Canonteign Sea Cadets, D Company Devon Army Cadet Force Newton Abbot, 1322 (Newton Abbot) Squadron Air Training Corps, the police cadets, and the fire and rescue service cadets were welcomed by Lt Col D T Lillicrap, deputy commandant Devon Army Cadet Force.With other dignitaries, including the mayor of Newton Abbot, Cllr Carol Bunday, the chairman of Teignbridge Council, Cllr Stephen Purser, and the chairman of Devon Royal British Legion, Ralph Howard-Williams, he inspected the cadets.Prayers were led by the Rev Joe Haward, of the Newton Abbot Baptist Church, before the salute was taken by officers as the parade returned through Courtenay Street to the dismissal point.
