On an overcast afternoon at Kate Brook, Ivybridge won the toss and asked Chudleigh to bat first, despite the pitch looking good for batting.

Openers Paul Horne and Jason Barnes made steady progress to reach 22-0 off seven overs, before Horne started to dispatch the Ivybridge attack to all parts of the ground. There were many stoppages in play while the ball had to be retrieved.

The century partnership was brought up in just 19 overs and, as the bowlers started to tire, Horne and Barnes cashed in – Horne making a fantastic attacking 100 in just 109 balls.

He was finally dismissed for a breathtaking 138, which included 18 fours and six towering sixes – one of which was lost in the brook.

But not before he and Barnes had broken the record for a first wicket partnership in the 2nd XI B Division, with a stand of 254.

Barnes was dismissed for a superb 81.

Ben Ripley played an exciting cameo innings of 26 off 13 balls, meaning Chudleigh had the luxury of being able to declare after 41 overs with the score on 284-3 – leaving themselves 51 overs to bowl Ivybridge out.

The pitch remained flat and Ivybridge captain D Solomon batted for 40 overs for an epic 67 not out.

After 51 overs Ivybridge had got to 218-4 and the game was drawn. Marc Shaw was the pick of the bowlers with 2-37.

More than 500 runs were scored during the match, but the day belonged to Paul Horne and Jason Barnes and their record-breaking partnership.
