SOME 100 passengers were evacuated from a plane at Exeter Airport this morning because of ‘haze in the cabin,’ it has been revealed.

Emergency services cleared the Alicante-bound aircraft - carrying 100 passengers and five crew - just moments before take off.

One eyewitness said: ‘The jet was surrounded by emergency services including fire at the end of the runway.

‘It looked like passengers have escaped using chutes.’

A Flybe spokesman confirmed its plane had to be grounded after ‘experiencing haze in the cabin.’

He added: ‘Flybe crew took the necessary precautionary measures and all 100 passengers and five crew members evacuated the aircraft safely.

‘We are taking the situation very seriously and out immediate concern is for the welfare of all those involved.

‘We are now in the process of making sure all passengers are taken care of.’
